Throwing Course • Three Part – Throwing, Turning and Glazing

£175.00
Sold Out

Please note: For our morning course starting Tue 30 April, week one will be Tue 30 April, week two will be Tue 7 May and the final session will differ, being on Wed 15 May instead of Tue 14 May.

A relaxed and intimate introductory series – for those who have always wanted to see what it is like to throw at the wheel and take a piece through the entire making process, from preparing the clay, to throwing its form, to turning and trimming, and then to glazing and firing.

To support a supportive and unintimidating atmosphere, we will never have more than four people in our throwing classes and you will always have your own, dedicated wheel and a quiet space to practice.

Each element is so important when you learn to throw, so we will work carefully through each step.

In the first session, you will be guided through the elementals including how to weigh and prepare your clay for throwing, how to centre your clay, use throwing tools, and work towards creating simple shapes.

In the second session, you will be guided through how to turn and trim your pieces from the previous week on the wheel, ready for them to go to the kiln.

For the third week, we will bisque fire your work in advance, so you can spend this final session glazing your pieces in a beautiful selection of colours of your choosing, ready for firing.

Workshop Notes

Each session is two hours – but we’ll allow for ten minutes at the end to clean down your workstation.

Suitable for complete beginners.

Please bring an apron and an old tea towel, and consider trimming your nails short for this throwing session.
