special workshops for two

children’s workshops and birthdays

Relaxed, creative workshops for groups of 8 – 30 people

  • We ask for a minimum of eight people for these group events but our studio can hold up to thirty guests across two adjoining rooms, connected via an archway.

If you are less people, please do get in touch for alternative pricing.

  • Our most popular group event – a gentle, mindful hour in the studio guided through the ancient art of pinching to create a set of two delicate dishes, cups or little plates. Perfect for salt, incense, or spices, espresso, jewellery or tapas.

  • In this 90 minute workshop, learn to create a beautiful little cup of your own design for your morning rituals, either with or without a handle, depending on your own unique preference – which will be glazed and fired for you after the class.

  • Kurinuki is a meditative, sculptural, slow and responsive form of creating functional ceramics — meaning “to hollow”.

In this 80 minute workshop, you will be guided as you create a single, beautiful Japanese Yunomi – informal tea cup – which will be glazed and fired for you after the class.

  • Inspired by beautiful floral arrangements, spend 120 minutes in the studio, learning to form your own organic, sculptural vessel or vase using traditional coil practices which allow you to create a beautiful, flowing form.

  • Unwinding – a longer, 90 minute session, designed with enough space for you to create two pieces each. Firstly, you’ll explore pinching to create an organic-shaped side plate for tapas or oils. Then you’ll learn how to drape-mould your choice of either a side plate or breakfast bowl using our bespoke studio moulds.

*We offer this workshop for a maximum of twelve people due to spacing.

  • All your materials and firings are included and we dip-glaze all work from private sessions in a pretty, milky white glaze or a transparent glaze. You’ll see examples on the day and you can choose the one that best suits your work. And your pieces will be ready to collect around one month later.

If you’d like to add organic teas, natural wines or anything that would enhance your experience –– please enquire.

Perfect for larger parties, birthdays, away days and team events, baby and bridal showers, or simply a bespoke learning experience for your group.

Candelit date nights, couples workshops and private sessions for two

A special event for yourself and a dear one, or the perfect gift for two people you love. The studio will be yours and you’ll be expertly guided through a workshop of your choice –

  • Simplicity – a gentle, one and a quarter hour session, in which you’re guided through the fundamentals of drape-moulding with our bespoke studio moulds. You will create one shape each: either a side plate or breakfast-sized bowl.

  • Unwinding – a longer, 90 minute session, designed with enough space for you to create two pieces each. Firstly, you’ll explore pinching to create an organic-shaped side plate for tapas or oils. Then you’ll learn how to drape-mould your choice of either a plate or bowl using our bespoke studio moulds.

  • Technical – an intimate two hour session learning how to throw at the wheel. Perfect for complete beginners – it’s a little messy and always fun. With this private session for two, your technique will be carefully observed and developed with undivided attention and guidance.

You’ll be walked through the processes of wedging your clay, centering, opening up, pulling your walls, compressing your rims, and shaping and trimming your pieces.

You’ll have as many tries as you like at this mesmerising process and keep your best two pieces each to be trimmed, glazed and fired for you.

  • Ikebana is the Japanese art of arranging blossoms, greenery and other flora in a such a way to evoke emotion in the onlooker. Sink into two and a half hours creating a large handmade ceramic centrepiece vase each, inspired by organic forms using a combination of hand-building techniques, from slabbing to coiling.

  • All your materials and firings are included and we dip-glaze all work from private sessions in a pretty, milky white glaze or a transparent glaze. You’ll see examples on the day and you can choose the one that best suits your work. And your pieces will be ready to collect around one month later.

Relaxed, creative pottery birthday parties for your little ones

Below are some sample hand-building workshops we love running for younger groups. If you have something special in mind you’d like them to try, we’ll create a workshop just for you –

  • Capacity

The front room of our light-filled studio can seat up to 16 children around two work tables (one, dining table height with benches and the other, workbench height with high stools).

There is of course room for each child to have a parent stay for the party, across our adjoining second room or watching over their shoulder at the workbenches.

    Ages 4-16

We recommend four years and up but are more than happy to talk if you have a younger group. We also gladly accommodate mixed ages if you have older or younger siblings in attendance too.

  • All your materials and firings are included and for all workshops (except the Animal Sculptures workshop), we dip-glaze all children’s work in a pretty, milky white glaze. Animal Sculptures are left unglazed.

Alternatively, if you would love a wonderful add-on home activity for a future rainy day with your little ones, we can bisque-fire only, please let us know. Their bisque-fired creations can be painted with acrylics or any paints you have at home to make beautiful, decorative pieces (although not suitable for food/drink).

Your pieces will be ready to collect around one month later.

Due to the beautiful, experimental nature of children’s play with clay, we cannot guarantee every piece will survive the firing process — we encourage children to be mindful of incorporating air bubbles into their clay whilst building but as we can’t supervise every project on a 1:1 basis, occasionally, there are casualties. It is a normal part of the ceramics process.
